California bike crash in California kills 52-year-old woman

Car accidents can often injure those involved if the circumstances surrounding the accident are serious enough. When a bicyclist is involved, the injuries to the cyclist can be severe. The lack of protection that a bicycle offers when involved a car accident can often leave the rider seriously injured or even killed. Unfortunately, a bike crash in California recently caused the death of one victim.

The accident took place on the morning of July 3 and involved a motor vehicle and a bicycle. Initial investigations suggest that the cyclist was riding on the right shoulder of the road when a pickup truck struck her. It is as yet unclear exactly what occurred, but the driver allegedly showed signs of intoxication. She was arrested on suspicion of felony DUI at the scene of the accident.

Emergency personnel arrived at the scene of the accident soon after it took place. Sadly, the cyclist’s life could not be saved. The accident is still under investigation, and California police are looking for any witnesses to this unfortunate incident.

Regardless of whether the driver of the vehicle is convicted of DUI charges in relation to the bike crash, the family of the deceased victim retains the right to seek financial relief in the form of a California wrongful death lawsuit. Typically, the claim would be made against the driver of the car as well as any other individual with an ownership interest in the vehicle. It will be necessary to prove the driver was negligent in such a way as to cause or substantially contribute to the fatal accident. If liability is established in a civil courtroom, demands for specific items of financial damage will be considered.
