Pedestrian accident: Driver strikes 6-year-old boy on skateboard

Losing a child in an accident is an experience not wished upon any parent. A California family has to cope with such a tragedy after their 6-year-old boy was recently killed in a pedestrian accident. The incident reportedly occurred on the property of an apartment complex in Santa Ana at which the young boy and a friend were riding their skateboards.

Authorities reported that the child was struck by a car that was driven by a 43-year-old woman at about 6 p.m. on a recent Wednesday. The boy was rushed to a hospital but was declared dead upon arrival. The driver of the car did not leave the scene of the accident and was reportedly giving investigators her full cooperation.

Police said there was no indication that alcohol or drugs played a part in this tragedy. No charges were filed at the time of the accident. However, a thorough investigation might reveal negligence on the part of the driver.

Such an accident typically leads to thoughts about what could have been and the life expectations parents had for their children. When a California child is killed in a pedestrian accident, it is not uncommon for the parents to want to pursue compensation for end-of-life expenses. If negligence can be established before a civil court, a wrongful death claim may lead to a monetary award to not only cover a funeral and burial but also other documented financial losses sustained. In some cases, the state laws also allow the court to include compensation for claims such as loss of future income and more.
